MENTORING SERVICES

For Teens/Young Adults and Parents

Mentoring can be a tremendous support for teens and young adults. Mentors provide not only companionship and an empathetic ear, they also offer targeted assistance such as getting and keeping a job, assistance with school, exploring ways to make friends, finding enjoyable substance-free activities, and future planning. For parents who are seeking relief from managing these aspects of their child’s life, mentoring can provide relief.

Mentors also address whatever comes up with their clients. The mentor can pick your child up at home or school, and can meet in a neutral place like a cafe or a park. Sessions start with a checkin–and then move towards other topics or goals. Be sure to speak with mentors about budget limits for activities (i.e. a $15 budget for coffee and snacks, or the cost of a ticket to an event).

Every mentoring service operates differently in terms of length of sessions, communication with parents, and pricing. Be sure to contact the services below and do your own vetting. Mentoring is not a replacement for therapy. It is more like coaching and support.
